The Black Keys, the Akron, Ohio blues-rock duo comprised of Daniel Auerbach and Patrick Carney, will honour the late Ike Turner with their Danger Mouse-produced Attack & Release album.
Auerbach and Carney were originally supposed to collaborate with Turner on an album, but the songs they were writing instead formed the basis of Attack & Release following the Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer's death in December.
The Black Keys' fifth album, but first recorded in a proper studio, will be released by Nonesuch on April 1. Besides half of Gnarls Barkley, the duo enlisted help from Carney's uncle, Marc Ribot, and fellow Tom Waits band member Ralph Carney. Auerbach duetted with 18-year-old bluegrass singer Jessica Lea Mayfield on "Things Ain't Like They Used To Be."
"Strange Times" and "Lies" can be previewed on The Black Keys' MySpace page.
Auerbach and Carney have previously contributed songs to multiple soundtracks, including School Of Rock, Black Snake Moan and I'm Not There. They've earned the praise of both Robert Plant and Thom Yorke, who requested that they open a Radiohead tour.
The Black Keys' only scheduled Canadian show will take place on April 6 at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom with Jay Reatard.
