The Futureheads Want You To Know They've Changed

Change was in order for The Futureheads' third record. The making of This Is Not The World involved a change of scenery (they recorded in Spain last summer), a new label (they left Warner's 679 Recordings and created Nul Records), a shift in duties (this is their first album to feature lead vocals by guitarist Ross Millard), and a lengthening of songs (only one is under three minutes).

This Is Not The World will be released on May 27. The follow-up to 2006's News & Tributes was recorded in three weeks with producer Youth (Primal Scream, The Verve) at his Space Mountain studio in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalusia, Spain.

The group released first single "The Beginning Of The Twist" in the U.K. in mid-March in conjunction with this MySpace message from vocalist/guitarist Barry Hyde: "Put on your dancing shoes and waltz to your local record shop and join the battle for independence! It's just us and you now. Let's put an end to the mediocrity and an end to the major labels ripping bands off. Again and again and again and again."

The videos for "The Beginning Of The Twist" and second single "Radio Heart" can be viewed on The Futureheads' website.

You can pre-order an exclusive CD/DVD version of the album from The Futureheads' site. The DVD includes performances and interviews.

The Sunderland, England band formed in 2000 and are composed of Millard, Hyde, vocalist/drummer Dave Hyde and vocalist/bassist David "Jaff" Craig. Original drummer Peter Brewis left and is now part of Field Music.

Here are the tracks for This Is Not The World:

  • "The Beginning Of The Twist"
  • "Walking Backwards"
  • "Think Tonight"
  • "Radio Heart"
  • "This Is Not The World"
  • "Sale Of The Century"
  • "Hard To Bear"
  • "Work Is Never Done"
  • "Broke Up The Time"
  • "Everything's Changing Today"
  • "Sleet"
  • "See What You Want"
