Arriving there late, I missed out on Serial Joe. However, the night was just starting and Matthew Good Band were about to hit the stage. Dim the lights. "K-I-C-K-A-S-S: that's the way we spell success" echoed through the darkness. Those were the words to live by and served to be nifty foreshadowing that evening.
Good and his bandmates delivered a good set, playing known favorites from Underdogs ("Rico," "Apparitions" and an extended performance of "Everything Is Automatic") and Beautiful Midnight , ("Giant," "Hello Timebomb," "Suburbia" among others) wrapping up the tour. And by the looks of it, Matthew and his "partners in crime" were glad. The final verdict on MGB, load me up, baby!
There's a brief interlude of a somewhat Monty Python-ish aspect. It seemed pretty appropriate for Christmas. The curtains drop and Moist floods the stage. While David Usher seemed a little reluctant at first during "Tangerine" and "Silver," he regained his dramatic flourish with an improvised version of his own "Forest Fire" creation only a few songs later. Lighters were held up in effigy as the lyrics, "My life goes underground" were flowed into the ears of all. It was definitely an energized song. Will Santa be leaving a shitload of presents under the tree for these guys? Apparently so. Merry XXXmas, everyone.
